St. Peter on "why be sober-minded"

3 reasons:

1. The inheritance promised believers (cf. I Peter 1:3-12)
2. So that you may pray, or so that your prayers are effective.
3. Because your enemy actively seeks someone to devour.

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
(1 Peter 1:13)

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
(1 Peter 4:7)

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8)
