What does love do?

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (Col 3:14)

This piece of music would sound horrible if even one of the instruments was out of tune or not in harmony. (Just think of that time you accidentally played the wrong note in band or orchestra etc.  Yuck! that didn't just sound bad because you're not used to hearing it that way. The note was out of harmony!)  It would be even worse if more instruments were not playing in harmony.  That's one reason canons have such an appeal when we hear them. They have an intrinsic harmony.  And there is also the feel that the music is "bound" together since all the parts are essentially playing the same music just at different intervals.

What is the "everything" love binds together? Probably the list of virtues Paul and Timothy list previous to this verse: compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another.
